Infiniti Confirms Hybrid for Production

IT'S OFFICIAL: Infiniti will soon release its very first production Hybrid vehicle.

As part of the recently announced M range of luxury performance sedans, the M35 HYBRID is expected to appear on the market in the spring of 2011.

Designed and engineered to enhance — rather than detract from — the driving experience, it's the first hybrid in Infiniti's 20-year existence. As one might expect, it maintains a high-performance luxury sedan profile. Complemented with the fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions of a smaller car, the M35 HYBRID will still deliver customary Infiniti driving flair, complete with rear-wheel drive handling and a charismatic V6.

Its electric motor acts as both a propulsion unit and generator. While charging the battery in the typical fashion, the motor also recovers energy otherwise lost during deceleration and braking. In certain driving conditions the M35 HYBRID can also run solely on its electric motor, thus extending fuel efficiency.

Its new “laminated” lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack is also innovative, offering twice the power per size as conventional batteries — with even greater reliability.

The new model will join conventionally powered M models — including a new high-performance diesel V6 for Western Europe — as the first generation of Infiniti’s luxury performance sedans to be sold across all of its 33 global markets.
